Tenant Insurance FAQ

General Questions

Westland Express is the digital branch of Westland Insurance, an independent, national insurance brokerage based out of Surrey, British Columbia.

We offer a digital option for quoting, purchasing and managing insurance policies in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan.

Here is the breakdown:

  • Tenants Insurance – insures a location you rent from a third party. Can also be called renters insurance.
  • Condo Insurance – insures a condominium you own and live in as your primary residence.
  • Rented Condo Insurance – insures a condominium you own and rent out to a third party.
  • Home Insurance – insures a home you own and live in as your primary residence.
  • Rented Home Insurance – insures a home you own and rent out to a third party.

You can quote and purchase a Westland Express ZipTenant policy in less than 15 minutes and the coverage can start right away!

Please be sure to have your credit card available for the initial purchase and your bank account information for the monthly payments. If you do not have a Canadian bank account, please e-mail support@westlandexpress.ca and we will help you through the banking step of the quote.

Insurance can be confusing – that’s where we come in!

When quoting a Westland Express ZipTenant policy, there are information buttons next to each coverage to explain what it entails. We recommend reading about each coverage to ensure you are purchasing adequate coverage for your personal contents and lifestyle. If you have any questions that are not answered OR you require technical support, please e-mail your detailed questions to support@westlandexpress.ca.

Once you have completed your quote and would like to proceed with the policy, the purchase can be completed online!

That’s the great thing about Westland Express ZipTenant policies – they don’t expire! Our month-to-month policies remain active until you log into your account to cancel the policy OR the policy is cancelled for non-payment. Instead, we have an anniversary date at the end of one year of continuous coverage under the same policy.

You may need to request a new proof of insurance for your landlord after your anniversary date every year. Go to www.westlandexpress.ca, click on Login, click on Tenant Login, sign into your account, click on My ZipTenant Policies click on My Policies and then select your active policy.

Once you have selected your active policy, scroll to the bottom and under Policy Documents, select the most recent Declaration then click on Download Proof of Insurance. You can then present this document to your landlord as confirmation you have an insurance policy with Westland Express.

Instead of an expiry date, our Westland Express ZipTenant policies have an anniversary date at the end of one year of continuous coverage under the same policy. There is no need to start a new policy every year – our month-to-month policies remain active until you log into your account to cancel the policy OR the policy is cancelled for non-payment.

Once you have selected your active policy, scroll to the bottom and click on Request Updated POI. The system will reload and then you can download an up-to-date proof of insurance.

Please check your junk mail, spam or trash folder as the e-mail may be there.

Please also add support@westlandexpress.ca and admin@westlandexpress.ca as safe senders to ensure you receive all correspondence regarding your policy.

Claims

Accidents happen!

To open a claim for a Westland Express ZipTenant policy starting with NTP, WLXT or ZipT, go to the ZipTenant Portal Login page, log into your account, click on Claims, click on Report Claim and enter the claim details.

For all other tenant insurance policies not starting with NTP, WLXT or ZipT, go to the Westland Express Claims page, locate the type of insurance, then click on the company you are insured with.

The name of your insurance company can be found on your policy documents.

An adjuster will contact you within 72 business hours to review the claim details and discuss the next steps.

Payments

Go to www.westlandexpress.ca, click on Login, click on Tenant Login, sign into your account, click on My ZipTenant Policies click on My Policies and then select the quote you wish to purchase and a purchase button will appear. Click on that button and follow the steps to complete the purchase.

The first payment is required before the policy can be activated; this payment can be made via credit card or Interac, online debit. We also require your banking information to set up the regular, monthly withdrawals.

Please note, if you have a Visa enabled Debit card, enter it as a Visa, not as Interac, online debit.
To obtain proof of insurance for your landlord after the policy is purchased, go to www.westlandexpress.ca, click on Login, click on Tenant, sign into your account, click on My ZipTenant Policies, click on My Policies and then select your active policy. Once you have selected your active policy, scroll to the bottom and under Policy Documents, select the most recent Declaration then click on “Proof of Insurance. You can then present this document to your landlord as confirmation you have an insurance policy with Westland Express.

All Westland Express ZipTenant policies are made one month in advance.

The initial, credit card payment will cover you up to the end of the first complete month AND includes a 10% set up fee and $1.00 processing fee. For example, if you purchase your policy on the 15th of January, your first payment will be for the remainder of January, all of February, a $1.00 processing fee plus 10% of the total amount.

E-Mail Addresses Accepted by Westland Express

Westland Express accepts any standard internet e-mail addresses.

Please be sure to check your spam or junk folders for messages from support@westlandexpress.ca or admin@westlandexpress.ca to ensure you receive all notifications regarding your policy. We have noticed problems with @hotmail.com and @live.ca email addresses in the past.

Westland Express is designed for customers who are comfortable with e-mail and the internet and who are able to receive, access and read regular communications via e-mail. Your e-mail address will also be your account username. If you do not have an email address or regular access to your e-mails, we recommend reaching out to our parent company, Westland Insurance, for an insurance quote – https://www.westlandinsurance.ca/

E-mails sent from Westland Express will come from support@westlandexpress.ca or admin@westlandexpress.ca. Please be sure to mark both as safe senders in your email account.

Once you have logged into your account, all communication with Westland Express is done via a secure connection. Depending on your web browser, you can see a closed lock icon and the word secure in the web address bar (example: https://secure.westlandexpress.ca).

Westland Express will work in all modern and updated web browsers including Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, Edge, Firefox and Opera. We do not provide support for Internet Explorer 6 or prior. If you are having issues accessing the website, please be sure to clear your browser cache or try a different browser. If you are unable to access the website using a device such as a mobile phone or tablet, please try to access it using a laptop or desktop computer.
